About Omoana
Omoana is a Swiss NGO supporting children and young people facing situations of vulnerability and exclusion in Uganda and Iraq.
We develop long-term partnerships with local organisations, providing financial, strategic and technical support in areas including mental health and psychosocial well-being, education and youth participation.
Theatre and performing arts are increasingly part of our programmes, as tools for expression, creativity, participation, dialogue and well-being. We are looking for experienced practitioners who can introduce new artistic approaches and help transfer these skills to our local partners.
What we are looking for
We are interested in practitioners with a distinctive artistic practice or methodology, including:
- improvisation theatre;
- clowning or mask work;
- musical theatre;
- puppetry or object theatre;
- participatory and community-based theatre;
- Theatre of the Oppressed;
- or other creative performing arts approaches.
Depending on the practitioner’s expertise, assignments may involve facilitating workshops, training and mentoring local facilitators, developing practical exercises and resources, and adapting artistic methodologies to different cultural and social contexts.
The aim is not necessarily to produce performances. We are particularly interested in theatre as a process through which children and young people can play, create, communicate, build confidence and explore issues affecting their lives.
Profile
We are primarily looking for strong artistic and facilitation expertise. Experience working with young people, training facilitators, participatory arts or intercultural contexts is an asset.
Previous humanitarian or development experience is welcome but not required.
Ability to facilitate in English is required. Arabic and/or experience in East Africa or the Middle East are assets.
Assignments will be offered on a consultancy basis, according to programme needs, and will mostly focus on missions to Uganda and/or Iraq.
