| Who we are? |
|
We set up OMOANA in 2003 while we were students at the College du Sud à Bulle. OMOANA means “child” in Iuganda the language spoken in the south of Uganda. Our aim is to help the orphaned and vulnerable children from the regions of Jinja and Gulu. Our way of operating is to work, hand in hand with local partners. By listening and trying to understand we are able to ensure that any aid we bring is adapted to the local culture and specific needs. Our organization is based in Switzerland. We have numerous fund raising activities which allow us to implement our aid actions. Our vision We don't believe that children suffering is an unfortunate act of fate. Confronted with a harsh reality we have been able to prove that it is possible to react and our firm belief that we can create a better world has motivated us to reject such fatalism and to multiply our efforts. We cannot accept that a Swiss can be seen to be more valuable than an inhabitant of the third world. Young Ugandans, often orphans, demonstrate an incredible desire to make something of their lives. The hardships they endure every day make it hard for them to profit from the joys of their existence let alone share them with the rest of the world. We are fortunate in not having to worry about survival and have a profound desire for this fortune to be enjoyed well beyond our borders. By participating actively in Ugandan society we can help the young hold their heads high and look to the future. Our commitment to the young and teenage Ugandans is long term to enable them to become independent adults and to take an active role in the development of their country. This task will definitely keep us well busy for years to come. Our mission - To offer Ugandan children and teenagers the chance to have quality education so that, one day, they can take their lives into their own hands. – offer them, where necessary, a home where they can receive the care and affection they need for them to develop fully while always respecting Ugandan culture. – allow families to manage activities that can generate income – contribute to the development of Uganda
– make the young and older Swiss aware of the problems faced by the inhabitants of Uganda.
