OMOANA is a Non-Profit that works in Uganda, a country from East Africa, which has 2.2 million orphans. Several projects have been set up with worthy local partners. We are working in a number of ways to help children in need and to facilitate their re-insertion into the community. Our aim is to give them the means to be dynamic participants in the development of their own country. There are currently 123 children being actively aided by OMOANA and 180 families are being supported thanks to income generating activities.
Actions undertaken by Omoana in Uganda – provisional home for orphans – provisional home and re-rehabilitation for HIV positive children – funding primary, secondary and higher educational – micro-credits for families in a precarious situation – promoting agriculture
The Omoana centre The home is the result of a partnership between St Francis Health Care Services and OMOANA in order to give a provisional home to HIV positive children. By giving them the care necessary and reinserting them in the community we can prove to the world that they are able to live with the illness. After their reinsertion their progress is followed carefully by a social worker and their school fees are paid by OMOANA. The St Moses Children's Care Centre & Community development This Home founded in the 70's by a Ugandan woman cares for orphans and vulnerable children. Projects to help families have been set up to facilitate the reinsertion of children into their original communities. Their long term schooling is funded. OMOANA is an active supporter of this centre.
Micro-credits for families in a precarious situation In partnership with the St Moses c.c.c. projects for micro-credits have been set up. In several villages female groups, aided by a social worker, have been formed. Money is loaned to them to allow them to manage an activity that can generate income.
The African Child Outreach trust Since 1986 the population of the North of Uganda has been held hostage by a war that has ravaged this region. In partnership with the African Outreach trust, a local NGO, OMOANA is financing the secondary education of 20 teenagers from the region. |
